There was once a child whose stepfather was cruel, hateful, and vicious. The child and his actual father were endlessly tormented by this. They wanted justice. Perhaps even vengeance. Desperately, too. But there was none to be had.

Time passed. They grew up. As the father aged and his child became an adult, they were eventually freed of the influence of the ‘evil stepfather’.

Over time, they discovered that this situation contained an unexpected benefit of incredible value: the child had acquired a model of a bad father that he could truly despise and heap all of his disgust, anger, and feelings of being wronged upon. The real father had become so adoring of his son that he was never required to play any role that would demean or dominate him.

Secretly, this allowed them both to discover and enjoy… incredible liberties and intimacies… that might otherwise never have been catalyzed or experienced.

In short, the evil stepfather inadvertantly »»played the scapegoat. And the play was so perfect that… once the child was free, both he and his actual father … benefited wildly from this.

And when they realized it… an endless cornucopia of benefits ensued, and continued to expand, deepen and communicate benefit … and not merely in their own relationships… but in many others as well.

Injustice has purposes we rarely discern from the position of victim or defendant. If we are willing to see them, they can … and usually will … become greater benefits than ‘if things had gone the way we would hope or believe was good’. To recognize this is to become empowered to surpass all cultures of victimization and prosecution.

And to become thus empowered is to achieve the potential to be… not a messiah or rescuer, per se… but a catalyst. What is catalyzed is waves of insight, healing, relational excellence, and liberation. This is a role worthy of our birth and efforts. It may well be the role that fits the spirit of our human souls.
