When eating or drinking we often suppose that we know what the food ‘is’. You know, we recognize it, and think of it as, basically, the same as other instances of ‘that same kind of food’. And we are in a sense, (a linguistic sense) correct. However, there is an aspect which is nearly as profound — or even more important, yet so often overlooked: we are eating and drinking -each other- and the moment. The place. The spirit of the time. The food? That’s the representation. It’s nourishing, precious and sacred… and often -transformed- by who we’re with… but the real repast is in the heart, the soul… eternity. And that? That is -grace-.
