In the future, highly aggressive, extremely adaptive ‘virapps’ (all applications will be viral warriors)… will constantly enter combat to win your acclaim, approval, and recommendation… which will immediately enhance their ability to infect your family, friends, relations, and so on. They will ‘gladiate’ and use these combats to improve themselves and steal or surpass feature sets of opponents…with shockingly subversive combat gambits. Only the most advanced and most profoundly competitive will get anywhere near your attention. The rest of the virapps will compete in the relative ‘slums’ of devices belonging to the poor, the prisoners, the forgotten, and the lost. And, of course, there will be a kind of ‘app Valhalla’ where the wealthiest and most intelligent house their absurdly advanced ‘superversion’ of this environment, and cull the very finest of its warriors … to maintain their elite positions of power and dominance in human cultures.

Approximately 187 years after that… these will become the first demons.
