I would not call what is in machines ‘memory’ any more than I would call computation ‘intelligence’. What is in machines is not like memory, for memory is alive, and changes when accessed… often dramatically. The memory in machines is different. It is permanent records of numeric representations. This is not alive. Accessing it has no effect.

Memory changes when you touch it.
