“The power of the fountain (and the waterfall is perhaps the original root here) as a metaphor is almost primordial. The waters at the base form a reflective pool of unity, from which a jet streams up. As it travels, it disperses into drops of every size, and even mist. This is unity achieving distinction. Each droplet is perfectly yet uniquely reflecting all other drops, the stream, the world above — and the pool below. Some will even be blown into that world, rather than ‘regaining unity’ in the living mirror of the fountain’s pool. And all that occurs above is reflected below in that pool, to which each droplet (with some exceptions in the case of physical fountains) returns. And so it is with life. So it is with mind. With psyche. And even with the universe itself. The fountain is eternal, and embodies a process too sublime to easily imagine because it is the process of everything, everywhen.”
