In the presence of extremely different rates, we can experience confusion, shock, or even permanent damage to the structure of our minds. This is uncommon since humans generally only relate with other humans, but there are accessible orders and instances of intelligence so powerful and momentous that sudden open contact would shatter nearly any ordinary human mind. Such relations are not, however, entirely beyond our reach; with extreme care a stepwise process of survivable accelerations may take place over an appropriate (i.e. sustainable) period of (human) time which facilitates partial contact and communion.”
