“There is a way of thinking about a tree that is like a dot. Now this can be extended… -dimensionally- such that the new position of awareness is as a line is to a dot. And so on, through cross, disc, sphere, manifold… This is incredibly hard to simply imagine, one has to be led through the extensions to see them in most cases. But we do have an example, for when you are dreaming, something like this is happening. In dreaming, some aspects of identity become ‘manifold’, which is to say, expressive not of some possessed identity, but of a delicate constellation of relationships between things, beings, and circumstances. When people seek psychedelic experiences, they are looking for this progression. Unfortunately, what is delivered is most often incomplete, and results in a sense of what is missing, rather than its retrieval.”
