It was prescient that frack replaced f*ck in Battlestar Galactica, because in this style of usage they both have effectively the same meaning: shatter with grievous prejudice. To frack a place is to obliterate it for the sake of minor short-term profit. This is like popping a cap in someone for a dollar. That’s where the prejudice comes in. In the case of fracking, it means extreme disgregard for the nature of … nature.
Fracking is, simply stated, a way to profit from the permanent poisoning and destruction of vastly distributed land and water resources without having to purchase them or take any real responsibility whatsoever. This would be like me renting your home for the weekend, and setting something up that, shortly after I leave, will burn your entire city to the ground, killing everyone in it.
It’s a great opportunity for profiteering when ‘economies need growth’: lease, obliterate, profit, and depart. And once you’re gone, and the earthquakes and poisons and death come, well, you’re gone. Your profits were made, you paid for the rights, everything is aboveboard. Murder and the hidden injections of poisons into the bodies of our world and people is just another day at the office, followed by one at the bank. Fracking is, effectively, death-f*cking the planet with ‘organs’ made of steel and greed.
