Occasionally when I asked my mother where she learned something she would reply, “a little bird told me”… I did not (as was common custom) dismiss this. Perhaps even my mother herself felt that she was merely using colloquialisms, and yet… I later discovered that the correspondence was not merely an instance of poetic license.
