Since intelligence is elementally relational, it is peculiarly absurd to test it in a relational vacuum. It’s not that I do not value problem-solving and perceptual skills. I do. But think about how misguided this idea is, and how it cruelly dismembers our understanding of the nature of intelligence. This is also part of the problem with AI or ‘artificial intelligence’ — an idea I find intrinsically misframed.
‘Testing’ for the presence of intelligence in the absence of relations is like cutting off its head, and testing the dying body to see which instinctual and somatically anchored habits and/or reactions were made ‘sticky’ by previous experiences.
This is not intelligence, but its ghost!
So if you test high on IQ scores… my interpretation is something like… you’re haunted! (And yes, I am haunted in this way).
