I think it’s dangerously misguided for any cult, culture or group to co-opt the rainbow (or any common natural phenomenon) for their own identification or political purposes. The rainbow is not a symbol, and it does not belong to (and should not be re-framed as belonging to) any specific group or movement. When some group decides to re-purpose it as a symbol of their own identity and/or unity, they are effectively stealing something sacred from the rest of humanity through an act of intentional re-connotation.

Effectively, this represents a subversive assault on human cognition and identity. The connotations we intentionally associate with these phenomenon have unthinkably profound purchase human minds and cognition and their impact is not limited to the phenomenon or symbols involved. Because the nature of representational intelligence is intra-reflective, the connotations in question lend their reflective implications to vast ranges of associated and seemingly unassociated concepts, identities, and ideas.

In the case of the rainbow, this act is egregious for a variety of reasons, but particularly because it involves the sociopolitical reframing of -=the meaning and connotative associations of the visible spectrum of light=-. The scope, depth, breadth and impact of this particular phenomenon are so significant that we cannot even reasonably attempt to conclusively measure or map them.

The rainbow does not belong to any group, movement, political or social agenda. Like the Sun, the moon, or light itself, the rainbow is a shared and sacred heritage of all living beings, and as such, should be excluded from being fielded as a representational asset associated with some particular group or sociopolitical agenda.
