Language and the world exist in domains that are distinct. So, too, thoughts and the world. So, too, thoughts and the self.

Like the pool that bears endless reflections but remains unchanged by them, the self cannot be stained by reflections.

But the mind, which essentially -is- the reflections, easily acquires almost any sort of adulterant. Perhaps more disturbingly, some adulterants are fiercely aggressive, and want to be acquired, sustained, and nurtured … no matter what the cost to those involved.

Thankfully the pool’s inherent nature (which is miraculous) is not affected, and may, in time, resolve itself so as to comprise a barrier which can no longer sustain the impressions required by aggressive, self-interested reflections.

Then the self and the mind are free to grow and dance in peaceful wonder.
