We may identify two common polarities of mind.

One is the servant or follower of dead or distant experts and models. This mind is essentially a fan or slave. It is moved to ‘like’ what it sees outside that reflects its own (usually unexpressed) nature. It is the mind of emulation and quotation, which can be a crucial learning resource, but becomes a trap when we become dependent upon it in lieu of engaging our own authentic spirit of creative relation.

The other is the burgeoning creative immersion of the living child, who, in many cases has been convinced they do not possess the wings of the experts or prodigies. Problematically, however, this child is already in flight and simply cannot detect it because it knows no other state. If it suddenly recognized that it was flying, it would surpass all extrinsic others, and become authentically itself.
