In Greek myths, Chiron was the wisest of the Centaurs; some would name him as the archetype of the Wounded Healer.
During a vapor-fugue he was struck by an arrow from Heracles that had been dipped in the blood of the Hydra. Because he was immortal, the deadly venom within his wound caused him eternal torment.
In search of his own healing, he discovered the arts of healing others… and in teaching others the arts of healing, he found a measure of solace from his sufferings.
Eventually, his immortality was offered in trade for Prometheus’s liberation from eternal torment at the Rock — and in return for his sacrifice he was granted celestial office in the heavens.
