These feelings grow more common as I age: that my youthful brilliance was often misguided, that my fellow humans are so thoroughly and dangerously confused as to comprise the single most deadly threat to the well-being of nearly anything alive, and that the overwhelming beauty and strangeness of human life is inclined to magnify itself beyond all realistic proportion as one acquires deeper intimacy with it.
