I’m astonished by the hidden wonders of language. When one’s linguistic intelligence begins to mature to the degree that it’s at home in the world of language, it spits out these little observations that (at least to me) are staggering. Today I hear the word Lieutenant for the 12,547th time, and it dawns on me: LIEU TENANT.
