Something strange just happened. I was on my deck, drinking coffee and reading the Matter With Things. I blindly reached behind me for my coffee, and something weird happened. I felt something falling, leaning on my hand, it wasn’t my coffee cup. I intuitively and instantly adjusted in a way that was probably formally impossible, so that the large coffee cup in my hand was not disturbed, and moved to cause the falling object (totally unknown in my blind mind behind me) to be re-balanced and set back into its position. I then turned around. My hand still maintaining the delicate balance of the falling object, which was rather heavy.
There is an old succulent plant in a small pot. I’ve had it for at least 15 years. My hand happened to be there in the exact moment when the weight of its growth, tilting forward, overcame the weight that kept it from falling off the shelf. It was completely bizarre. I was very slightly injured by this because I was reaching up and back behind me. ( I rebalanced the plant so that it will not fall, later ).
But it was my »left hand (right hemisphere) that accomplished this feat. Not the one that thinks. Not the one that ‘needs evidence to ‘believe’. Not the slow, representational, overburdened ‘tool like’ one. Not the one that ‘solves problems’. Not the evaluator.
The blind spirit of my being. It was a minor miracle. But the facticity and perfection of it overcame all I have ever ‘thought’.
The Left Hand.
