“If Western Civilization is so great, why is everyone I know crying on the inside? A lot of us are straight-up dying of loneliness and … estrangement. Whatever this is … here … in America … we are not together any more. It’s not One Nation … it’s a self-shattering hall of mirrors and projections.
People are literally dying of isolation in the midst of thousands of other people … who they may regularly see … but have no relation to … no meaningful role together.
A kind of vacuum has arisen here. I don’t know what came before this, but I suspect that … life may have been more dangerous … but at least it was »meaningful. Our identities were established in deep mutual relation … and this was sustained, generation to generation. We lived … for each other. Not for fictions. There was a shared mission; a shared history and a shared future.
We have not these things. Our society is shattering under the vast pressures and unpayable costs of the ‘principles’ we »actually serve.
‘Freedom’, the ‘great principle’ upon which we think our nation was founded … is being counterfeited. To whatever degree the possibility may have once existed… it is being almost literally fracked.
The freedom to »survive lives that are fundamentally uninhabitable … isn’t freedom. The safety of our separate homes is deceptive.
So, too, our ‘freedom’.”
