In the mind of someone who can only think in single-valued terms, a ‘religion’, such as Christianity or Islam ‘must either be right or wrong’. And if it’s right, then all of the tenets are true, and if it’s wrong, some may or may not be true.

But in actual human experience, a religion »can be formally untrue… and »still result in profound spiritual experience, development and awe.

And the opposite can also happen: it can be relatively true, and »not result in spiritual development for all or some of its followers.

Most of what we think is actually a kind of religion; and a religion is »neither true nor false… unless this becomes »our primary concern. It’s true that followers of religions have created atrocities. It’s also true they’ve been altruistic. It’s not one or the other, it’s both and more.

Again, most of what we do that we call ‘thinking’ is, actually, unconsciously, religious in nature… in that it results from »a system of beliefs about the ways we, the world, and existence ‘are’.
