“We do not see what is before us, and we nearly never see into the layer of Origin or Identity. What we were trained to ‘see’ has little to do with reality, nature, origin or identity. It is, instead, a twofold illusion. This is comprised of the results of applying two overlays. The first is verbal/conceptual. The name of a thing, and what is socially and linguistically implied by this overlay. The second, and this is where the money is buried, is ‘why we became interested enough to direct our attention’ to a subject of perception or inquiry. Both of these features are crucial in determining the results of our investment of attention or concern. The latter determines the range of possible ‘kinds’ or species of derivations, the former further determines the depth, content, and degree of ignorance implicit in the results.
Understanding this and maintaining awareness of the actions involved in directing our concern and applying representational overlays grants us new degrees of freedom in consciousness, thought, evaluation and felt experience. As we maintain awareness of the fictional ‘overlay’ nature of conceptual knowledge and language, we begin, slowly, to see through this veil and retrieve anciently conserved skills and abilities that would seem to ordinary persons to be supernatural. And as we maintain a conscious awareness of ‘why we were willing to invest attention at all’, we will begin to discover how we have been complicit in sabotaging our awareness so that we are at once deceived and protected by our involvement in the production of results that, while pleasing or admissible to public or cultural contexts, actually oppose the true nature of our minds, humanity, creativity and the vast arrays of intelligences that comprise our human heritage.”
