“Four things of Value I gained from my deep study of Science and Sanity and General Semantics 2009-2014 (with an auxiliary study in mathematics):
a) The motivation to take a math degree, and to approach my study of mathematics from the perspective of math as a language and a form of human behaviour. An understanding of mathematics as the behaviour of the human mind at its best, and thus a field from which we might learn how the human mind might work to be at its best. Studying mathematics from the point of view of what its human value might be, rather than its technological value. WIthout this perspective I probably would not have been motivated enough to pursue and complete my math degree.
b) A general introduction to the principles of correct symbolism, and conciousness of abstracting, leading to a reliable method of orientation within representational paradigms. A sensitivity to the dangers and traps of representation and representational systems, as well as their potential value.
c) An understanding of the foundations, dynamic structure, and purposes of the western knowledge paradigm in general. An understanding of what the value of the knowledge paradigm might be in the context of human history was something that I deeply needed.
d) A sense of how systems of control and manipulation of human populations, as well as historical breakdowns of nations and civilzations all involve the misuse or abuse of symbolism, or ignorance of the principles of correct symbolism. A sense of how the understanding of these issues constitutes a lynchpin of liberty.”
