I learn a lot from C

Learning to not “interpret” his silences has been a big one. Learning to be patient and allow him to take his time to respond has taught me a lot about respectful relations.

I am a fairly quiet person – as in my voice is quiet – so I am easily interrupted. It’s been an issue my whole life. I am also a fairly quiet person in that I’ve never understood talking to just talk. I despise gossip. I don’t like hearing stories about people I don’t know. This has of course lead to troubles finding “connection” in social circles – however – the connections I love are deeper than surface level noise having to fuel an interaction.

One of my favourite moments of connection was watching Marianna Louise Iverson work a sheep hide. We didn’t know each other well at the time, but I loved the quiet way we took turns, watching her work, encouraging one another as we learned together, soaking in the moment, the environment, the process, and the interconnectedness with a larger story. I remember telling her something along the lines of “I wish you could see how beautiful you look right now!”. It’s a sweet memory of a friendship beginning to bloom in quiet reverence ~
I crave moments like those ~ where you are truly seen, heard, and respected.

Thank you Salish McKay for constantly inspiring me and reminding me through how you are in the world to slow down, breath and be present.
