“Like a baby that has taken its first 5 step walk without falling down, the humans are flush with the sense that they have now achieved, effectively, godhood as regards computation. Our actual understanding is in its infancy. This is not yet understanding. We are entirely unaware of the perils that lie in this direction.
But as regards biology, it’s far worse. We’re still in the womb, and have managed to move our limbs.
The problem is this: we’re attacking that womb—the anciently conserved ecologies of Earth, and part of why and how we’re attacking it… is with computation.
Not only is this not understanding, it’s fundamentally lethal. We know nearly nothing about why there are living worlds, and why this one is swarming will incredibly diverse biological and relational intelligences.
But those intelligences are the actual origin of the possibilities of the incredible assets that comprise our humanity. If they are destroyed, and when they are destroyed, the damage lands in us. Instantly. The hubris that humans are enacting must come to an end. And if we cannot curb it, the biosphere »will.”
