I remember my Mother. Before I was at all as a human, I was an organ in her body. She was good and kind, intelligent, loving and extremely creative. So, too, her mother. Together they were the embodiment of kindness, forgiveness, care, nurturing and nourishment, hope, faith, reassurance and wisdom. I also remember that, at each moment of our lives, it is as if we sit within the circle of all mothers. Spiritual, animal, vegetal, human, divine. This circle is always there — however invisible it may be to our ordinary mind, because it is part of our origin, our deepest being, our hearts and minds. I imagine this circle, and the profound humility and love of my place within it. It inspires me to embody their virtues and remember their travails. I will always remember and try to serve the great circle of mothers… born and unborn… present and departed. I honor their spirit, memory and reality. I strive to be worthy of their sacrifice, and to learn to be as they are. Nourishing, kind, and infinitely loving.
