I have long heard ‘intelligent’ people complaining about humans anthropomorphizing nature. Although I agreed, in a general sense with most of their arguments, I felt that something was missing or wrong with the whole perspective. Then, over time, it became a common habit not to anthropomorphize nature, but to mechanomorphize everything; nature, organisms, human beings, minds, brains, physics, everything. And about this, it seems, there was not only little complaint — but wild celebration. That is when I began to realize that the entire charade was backwards, and when this is true, the structure of relations and inheritance in our ideas, conceptual frameworks and minds… is either counterfeited or obliterated. This structure is crucially important, because the ladder of inheritance (hierophores) determines the ‘species’ or kind of things and beings. If you have the wrong idea about what the universe is, you will have the wrong idea about what everything is. So, too with the world, animals, human beings… and especially, machines.
