Some recent mispronunciations/linguistic mondegreens…:
1: Was talking with a friend about an LDR and he said Long Distance Relationship and I heard:
Wrong Distance Relationship
(there’s a comedy skit in this one).
2: Was eating dinner with a friend and when asked if I wanted more I said: I think I have reached the pre-satiation phase. This then became a humorous comparison between pre-satiation, appreciation, and post-satiation.
3: I was talking with a friend and explained that ‘most of what we think about as important has to do with our sense of how much time we have’. For example, if we knew we only had one more week of life, much of what we think of as important would be considered trivial or completely ridiculous.
He replied. Yes, that’s true… but how do we decide what is »exportant?
4. I heard a father-daughter pair discussing probiotics. The daughter asked: but dad, what about the biotics that don’t go pro? He said: geeze, I guess they’re just amateur biotics…
