I continue a previous walk & talk in which I explore features of our thought and awareness that actively inhibit our capacity for mutual and personal inquiry into the deep questions of life. In humans, the forms of representational cognition we are generally exposed to and infected with are pre-purposed to interfere with our capacity for deep awareness, insight, creativity, and real understanding.

I also talk about ‘what is mostly going on when we are speaking in public or together’. A lot of this behavior isn’t actually about learning or insight, awareness or understanding. Much if it is social posturing, and attempts to ‘cohort signal’, by which I mean ‘demonstrate adherence to the traditional dogmas and opinions appropriate to some group, or an in-group we wish to achieve or sustain membership within’. This goes by various names such as ‘peacocking’ and ‘virtue signalling’… as well as ‘performative speech’, but these new terms shed little light on the fundamental nature of the situation which is this: as human beings, »belonging is profoundly important to us, even if the groups in which we experience this are spurious, superficial, virtual or momentary….
