“A deeply tragic situation that recalls the death of Brandon Lee; while ‘shooting’ a film involving gun violence, the cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was actually shot and killed.
This, by a device referred to in the news as a ‘prop gun’. Recent updates imply that there was a lack of coherent safety, leadership and management on-set.
The nature of films is extremely bizarre if one takes the time to question it. We go through astonishing amounts of work, trouble and expense in order to produce something resembling dreams that are intended to be passively viewed (we are subjected to them) while awake.
I have often wondered how much damage to our minds and worlds results from the processes that, for example, portray billions of gun-killings per hour around the world. I have been subjected to thousands of gun-killings in ‘films’, even though I have nearly never even seen an actual gun fired in my waking life.
How much damage have we done to our world to (re-)portray historical and imaginary war and violence? Why is this one of the most common features of the fake dreams our cultures manufacture?”
