“What they didn’t realize was that many females are inclined to dial up their libido during crisis. One reason is obvious: more children equates to greater potential for the survival of the matrilineal line (mitochondria) as well as that of the patrilineal line (1/2 of the genes of our eukaryotes*). This potential gains significant momentum during both crisis and rising unpredictability.
( More actual sex = greater probability of children. And if, around here, the world or the universe wants anything… it wants to make babies. )
But subtler variables are also involved. Pairs have enhanced survival potential. Small groups (authentic polyamory) can take further advantage of shared commitment to mutual benefit and stress cleansing.
Crisis is want to increase intimacy of many varieties … along this same line of concern.
The implications are both profound and complex in the manifold of population itself, but the broad-scale transformations are bound to find diverse expression locally, at the scale of small groups and individuals.
Given the complexities of social layers and locales, including individual behavior, this can be understood as a trend, rather than … well, something else.
Of course, there are other drivers of libido in populations, and other populations than those here distinguished…
and there are other strong contributions to pair and group bonding beyond libido…”
