This is the (5th winter) moon cycle during which many creatures are mating; they’ve been preparing for at least a week, but there are Blue Herons sitting nests and I’ve seen raptors and other animals (newts, field crickets) displaying mating behaviors over the past couple of weeks.
In Blackfoot, this moon is called Piitaiki’somm (Eagle/Raptors Moon). But if they do not nest and mate now, it is a different moon (deceptive moon / frog moon). Their time counts are moon-oriented, but they are modified by the behavior of the animals.
