Subtly concealed within our traditional usage and purposes in language are vast terrains of presumptions… of value, identity, limitation… and potential. For most us, this will remain a strange internal sense of something being wrong in our relationships with language. Something unnecessary and blinding… and yet these intuitions are, for many, lost as we ‘ascend’ to a more ‘mature’ role in society.

Yet these strange labyrinths of assumptions and intentionally charactered de-infinitizations… that is to say… unadmitted reductions in meaning, scope or identity… blind us in ways that render our purported ‘literacy’ ironic…

Until and unless we explore these matters directly… with curiosity, enthusiasm… and, perhaps… virtue.
