Many people believe things about historical events, identity, meaning, values, and other principles… that are wholesale inventions… of a process that I wouldn’t trust with simple tasks, let alone the ongoing description of events, situations… and ideas.

As an example, many modern science headlines are absolute bullshit. This isn’t because the science is bad (though, occasionally, it is), it’s because ‘reporters’ can’t read it well (exceptions noted) and the urge to forge ‘headlines’ causes the possibility of meaning to collapse into sloganeering…
