“The thing the waking mind absolutely recoils from… is the sudden, unexpected introduction of ambiguity into the social and relational situation. Into identity. Or value. Into threat or opportunity.

This is precisely what it works so hard to kill — when Cain kills Abel — every morning as we awaken from dreaming. This is the stuff of death, the underworld, dreams and enchantments. It’s ungraspable. You can’t manipulate or predict it. You can’t even form reliable abstractions of it.

Ambiguity is anathema to the waking mind, and for the past 3 months its been leaking into every domain of our common experience, existence, habits and expectations.

And the waking mind is seriously vulnerable to this; it’s the resurrection of all it had worked so dilligently to kill, hide, lie about, study, and analyze right out of existence. But it’s coming. It’s unstoppable.

The damn Other, that the waking mind had largely imprisoned since it resurrects itself every night… can no longer be stuffed into the strange corner of barely remembered dreaming. The abstract sun has gone dark and has been shown to have been a network of sophisticated and habitual lies. Now the actual sun is present, and that thing is completely unpredictable. For the waking mind, this is hell on Earth.”
