(#2) Language is the first technology, and the ultimate (and unintentional) conspiracy. Although we pretend that it’s a gift, and everyone should ‘get infected’, the actual situation that underlies our relationships with language, knowledge, naming and evaluation is abysmal. And we have, with these problems, the opposite of herd immunity — we have unique expressions of herd-vulnerability… person-to-person and society to society.

I here explore some of the more blatant problems with these relationships, and begin to suggest some moves we can make to both recover from and acquire immunity to some of the more obvious dangers … and the opportunities that naturally emerge from becoming conscious of them. If we’re going to teach our children to become users of language, we must ensure they do not merely become »subject to it… and we must re-educate each other as well.

By the way, one of the most accessible and useful ‘treatments’ for many of the problems we encounter with language is to learn to recognize (and improvise instances of) rhetorical fallacies… like those listed here.

This is the second video that I made on this topic… in an attempt to address some things that were excluded from the first one.
