I got a lesson tonight in what it’s like to think in a way that examines whether or not people are even capable of meaning what they say… and what it’s like to live in a mind that’s routinely refuses to ascribe common meanings to things people say. Such a mind radically re-interprets human statements … resulting in the capacity to plan, predict and strategize in modes that are nearly entirely unfamiliar to me.
It was at once hilarious and terrifying… but I realized that I am still naive, especially when people are making face noises that I ordinarily presume to mean things… that, in many cases, are actually impossible.
