It’s possible that, a long time ago, bringing public attention to things that are catastrophically wrong had the capacity to affect them. But in our time, this potential has largely inverted so that, especially in social media, yelling about these things largely just causes the reverse effect. It advertises for them.
Part of the problem is that the context has entirely transformed; another aspect is that corporations and individuals can make huge amounts of money (or gather power) simply by capitalizing on this trend.
But the big issue is hidden from view: our collectives (nations, political parties, etc) are false… we did not form them… we do not guide them… we are simply subject to them.
People who have not formed their own collectives have little hope of changing them because they have no »agency. So if people actually want to effect change, they must first learn how to form collectives together that grant them intelligence, agency, and the power to affect what they favor or oppose….
