“Part of the purpose and effect of religions is precisely this: they tell us what the world, life and death are for. They give us a super-model whose implications are projected into all other phenomena. The histories, stories and goals of such a situation are crucial to understand… but that topic is not my present focus.

As regards ‘the soul’, personally, I can understand agnosticism (not-knowing), but how could one be certain something intuitively sensible doesn’t or cannot be going on? It seems to me unthinkable, and yet I can imagine a perspective where I might espouse such an opinion. It’s simply not my own… and partly because it is my experience and belief … that we participate in reality through and with something that at least slightly resembles ‘a soul’, however confused we may be about its natures, origins or purposes. And that this ordinarily obscured relationship is discoverable, experiencable… and in some contexts, verifiable.

So reincarnation is the idea that an at least relatively distinct soul belongs to each person or living being (and perhaps living places, or even stars or worlds, as well), and that this soul travels through a number of incarnations, or births and deaths as a living being or, more commonly, a human being, as it develops.”
