“Today, a single affluent family has more timepieces at home than a medieval nation.”

A single family may have as many as 40 devices that tell them ‘mechanical time’, which is fake time — decontexted from nature and actual physical relationships. This is part of why our sleep is often disrupted, because there are mechanical impositions that directly conflict with time as our bodies, minds, and relationships experience it.

Fundamentally, we are animals; this means that the nature of time is flexible, and derives from the sun, moon, and ecological cycles. What happens when a fictional extrinsic standard is imposed… is psychic and biological chaos.

For myself, I pay close attention to the sun, moon, plants, animals (including insects) and living places. I know that there is a biologically real ‘standard’ of temporality that has nothing to do with clocks… and exists in nearly complete conflict with them.
