We hear a lot about celebrating diversity. Whether or not our societies are actually concerned about or capable of this is unclear.
But what I want to talk about here is celebrating >adversity.
Many of us are trained to celebrate situations and events we count as beneficial; but what happens when things go wrong… even horribly wrong?
The past few weeks have presented many challenges in my life. I have no idea how to face or overcome them, but one thing that came up in a discussion with my son was the idea of just straight up celebrating the adversity.
It is, after all, where we are in the best position to learn, grow, and perhaps attain a new level of understanding and prowess.
So let me hear your thoughts about this idea: Is this a useful idea? Why might we want to celebrate adversity? Do you think you would be capable of such a challenge? What sorts of benefits might derive from this unusual perspective relating to trouble in our lives and relationships?
