Most significant environmental disasters and impacts cannot be remediated in any way that is not mostly superficial. The idea that companies or individuals can ‘be made to pay’ for such damages is absurd, because the lost ecologies are not made of money, and like human lives and futures… cannot be ‘restored’ with payments.

That said, eliminating or reducing the financial responsibility of corporations that wipe out or pollute the remaining ecologies is tantamount to paying them to assassinate them.
