“Peter Elbow just wasted my morning, offering his usual interesting insights about all of these wonderful and useful things I might do to readjust my teaching-of-composition in this very motivating way, before dropping this gem: “It is a class of seven to twelve people,” and “The goal is for the writer to come as close as possible to being able to see and experience his own words through seven or more people. That’s all.” That’s all? Dude, I have 27 students per class, and four classes in three disciplines, not 7, not 9, not 12, but 27 students. If I had a whole 7 students, I’m sure I could probably help them learn telepathy, let alone how to write.”
