∞ When we approach memory, we do so in a living way that constellates unities in a manifold. But the manifold does not contain ‘records’: memory, whatever it may be or be like, is nothing like recording — and, in fact, is the very source of likeness.

What we ‘retrieve’ from memory is not retrieved at all. It is something more like ‘giving birth to a unity’ in the mind. The nature of the result depends only partly upon memory, and mostly upon the purposive character of our interaction with it. Much like creation itself, or even… giving birth.

What is memory like? It is not like its second or third-order products. Dreaming holds some keys…
