“To see creatures or plants as mere examplars of a category renders them disposable in that it deprives them of being understood as localized exemplars of everything there is… but especially… of fundamental relationships which are in fact older than the flat age of the universe as we account it.

I have seen videos of men testing advanced weapons on coyotes which they skillfully attracted by emulating the calls of pups in trouble. These men found this endlessly entertaining, variously testing laser-guided tracking weapons and highly explosive projectiles on the animals.

While this was, to me, an atrocity, it was also educational. I needed to know their minds, see as they see, and understand their position enough to formulate both its structure and… with luck, its antidotes — for make no mistake — it is a disease… and such diseases are contagious, in part, because they are experienced as male (and social clade) bonding activities.”
