Successful hand-rescue of a queen bumblebee trapped in cold, exhaust-filled spot. Onlookers were terrified and confused. I was, of course, ecstatic. The moment when they fly from your hand, free again in the sky … is exquisite.

It was a bit of a challenge since I was hands-full, and unequipped to deal with the groceries, passersby, and the bee, but I decided she was worth more than the possible threats, so I set them down and worked with her till she was back to the sky.

It was the right move.
