That someone does science professionally does not make them an authority on the nature of anything at all; especially other ways of knowing, nature, reality, animals, relationships… or anything other than their particular field of technical expertise and experience. We should not promote persons to unjust authority in domains they are ill-equipped to even comment on — yet this is the popular passion of the media and meme-esque frenzy that comprises the modern media attention deficit standard.
Generally speaking, the moment a scientist steps out of their field of expertise, into the public spotlight… if they transfer their authority… and you sense this? They are probably insane. And Bill Nye, Dawkins, Dennet, Tyson, Hawking and many others are insane in this particular fashion.
