The stuff the humans call intelligence mostly isn’t. But there is something like actual intelligence, and our minds are made of it. The thing is, we were not taught to manipulate it — at all. We were left to be manipulated by it, and its shape was dictated by the dead voices of distant others. The key to the cage is near at hand, but largely invisible. It relates to the peculiar genesis of language and knowledge in our species and persons.
