It is often true that as one aspect of our capacities for apprehension gains acuity, another may warp and blur… or disappear from ordinary access… just as if we were trying to focus a lens in two ways at once. This is, in part, why awareness that one is dreaming tends to collapse the dream into waking. Genius is often accompanied by madness, and blindness by preternatural sensitivities.
