When you hear someone who is famous, powerful or brilliant speak, you need to use -more care- in vetting their ideas… not less. We fall under the spell of authority too easily, and once thus swayed, everything said thereafter seems to us magically true, or even noble… when in fact it may well be insane. The fact that someone is a scholar or expert does not mean they are making intelligent statements. Many absolutely brilliant people often said things that made no sense whatsoever. Sometimes, whole cultures followed them into insanity… without even stopping to consider whether their ideas had any real merit… or were lethally confused.
