By day, it is a superhuman nose the size of a large dog that goes around arbitrarily ‘rescuing’ situations or objects or beings. But it has no senses other than smell and touch. No one can talk to it. The rescues are nonsensical; no one even understands what they are except the nose, but the power of the giant nose is unstoppable. No one can oppose the nose. By night, it is a French poet, who has no memory of his days as a transhuman nose hero. He dreams strangely, however, and notices long gaps in his memories of the day prior to the fall of darkness. One day the nose rescued an empty box of laundry detergent from a bulldozer. Another time it rescued a gasoline-soaked $20 bill from landing on pavement where an angel once dropped a silver leaf.
