I don’t know what Zimmerman did, who he is, or what he represents, specifically. But it is obvious to me that our culture affects our minds, and our culture is desperately paraniod (if not omnicidal) about otherness. In general. So, what we see here is a signal about this. When we see someone acting extreme, what we are seeing is a localized concentration of the cultural zeitgeist, and when it is diseased, we should become immediately aware -by the power of such signals- and use those signals to -change our behavior and culture- immediately. Since we have another -purpose- which is to -sustain and concentrate the forces that produce signals like Martin, Zimmerman, Grant and Mehserle… what is happening is that the signals, local and worldwide, are increasing in strength, severity and result.
And then we want to punish the survivors, who we call perpetrators, in order to deepen (and sustain) the rifts and problems that are producing these signals. If we choose this, instead of dealing actively, intelligently, and compassionately with the issues now made obvious, then we must be the criminals, not the signalers. We are the disease, not the ‘the strange others whose wrath we fear’. There is absolutely no excuse to feign shock or even dismay at -the spectacle we are intentionally creating-. The only difference between us and the ancients is that we leave the rape, dehumanization, and torture we demand (as ‘Justice’) to happen behind closed doors.
We must change our culture and it sure as hell isn’t Zimmerman’s fault. He’s the bloody signal. And you want him punished? Idiots. We should be punished. We will be. As long as we insist on draconian ignorance instead of active insight there is no other possible outcome.
